HARARE – Opposition politician Nelson Chamisa says he is saddened that prominent preacher and Nyaradzo Funeral Services chaplain general Ellison Kamupira died before he could become state president.
“Kamupira was a unifying figure, and I’m deeply saddened that he left us too soon, before I had the opportunity to become President (of Zimbabwe),” Chamisa remarked as he joined the cleric’s funeral proceedings in Harare on Sunday.
The cleric passed on recently while admitted at a private hospital in Harare.
He was aged 75.
An affable figure, Kamupira presided over many funerals including those of politicians and other respected individuals during his time as Nyaradzo’s Chaplain general.
In his tribute to Kamupira, Chamisa praised the former for his role as a unifier, highlighting his contributions to fostering unity across Zimbabwe.
He also took a swipe at Vice President Constantino Chiwenga who vowed recently the former CCC leader and two-time challenger for state presidency, shall never rise to become the country’s number one.
“Recently, Chiwenga remarked that this young man (Chamisa) aspires to be president, but he believes it’s impossible.
“Growing up in Gutu, we have a saying in our village: When people say something won’t happen to them, it means it already has,” he said.
Chamisa added, “Similarly, when people say someone won’t be a leader, it’s often a sign that they indeed are a leader.
“My father Kamupira thank you for unifying us, (and) thank you for bringing us together.”
