HARARE – Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) chairperson and High Court judge Loice Matanda-Moyo has been appointed Prosecutor General by President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Justice Matanda-Moyo’s appointment was announced by the Chief secretary to the President and Cabinet Martin Rushwaya who said she assumes the position with immediate effect.
“Justice Matanda-Moyo has vast experience in the justice delivery system having served as a magistrate, State Advisor in the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, State Counsel (Criminal Division) of the Attorney-General prosecuting in the High and Supreme Courts.
“She rose through the ranks to the post of Director Civil Division and Director Public Prosecution before being appointed Judge of the Labour Court (2009) and Judge of the High Court (2013).
“She has also served as Chairperson of the Land Acquisition Task Force and represented Zimbabwe in international cases on human rights.”
Matanda-Moyo, wife to late former Foreign Affairs Minister Sibusiso Moyo, becomes the second woman in the Mnangagwa led bureaucracy to occupy a high judiciary position after Virginia Mabiza was recently appointed Attorney General.
As ZACC boss, Matanda-Moyo has earned criticism for apparent failure to go after influential politicians accused of high-level corruption in the country.
ZACC and the National Prosecuting Authority have traded blame on failure to account for bigwigs.
