CHEGUTU – A 16-year-old minor has been arrested together with two adult suspects in the murder of a 13-year-old in Chegutu.
Police said Sunday that the minor, who cannot be identified on ethical reasons, took part in meting out instant justice against one Clever Makosa, whom they accused of stealing a cell phone.
The suspects used logs, sjamboks, an electric cable and a motorcycle chain to assault the now deceased, police said.
“The ZRP confirms the arrest of Peter Mupwanyiwa, 40, Misheck Musiena, 21 and a minor, 16, in connection with a case of murder which occurred in Chivasa Village, Chief Nyamande, Gutu on 11 August 2023 in which Gift Chiutsi, 13, died.
“Clever Makosa died after he was assaulted by a suspect identified as Gore or Nison and six unidentified accomplices at a bar in Rogate, Chegutu on 12 August 2023.
“The seven suspects accused the victim of stealing a cell phone before assaulting him with logs, sjamboks, an electric cable and a motorcycle chain.
“The victim succumbed to injuries sustained whilst on admission at Chegutu General Hospital. Anyone with information to report at any nearest Police Station.”
