HARARE – The number of foreign visitors recorded in the country increased by 47,8 percent during the first quarter of this year compared to the same period last year, the Zimbabwe Statistics Agency has said.
According to the agency, the number of returning residents also increased by more than 100 percent in the period under review.
Presenting findings of 2023 first quarter International Migration Statistics, Zimstat director general Taguma Mahonde said the country recorded 603,412 arrivals during the first quarter, with 64,3 percent being returning residents and 36,6 percent being visitors from aboard.
Mahonde said of the 221,054 visitors from abroad, 46,5 percent of them came on holiday.
“The proportion of visitors who came for holiday increased by 51,5 percent during the first quarter of 2023 as compared to the first quarter of 2022,” he said.
“African countries accounted for the majority of visitors during the first quarter of 2023 contributing to 66 percent.”
The Zimstat report further shows that 37,763 were from South Africa, 20,359 from Zambia while 13,124 were from Mozambique.
