BULAWAYO – Highlanders have beaten FC Platinum 2-1 to break a near-10 year jinx against the reigning champions in an epic Castle Lager Premier Soccer League Match Day 3 clash played in front of a bumper crowd at Barbourfields stadium Sunday afternoon.
Stanley Ngala opened his scoring account for this season with a high footed strike against his former paymasters after 27 minutes while rock solid defender Peter Muduhwa doubled the hosts’ advantage with a header off a corner kick six minutes later.
FC Platinum tried to claw back with a second half goal but that was not enough to turn around the score for a Zvishavane side that piled on the pressure against a determined opponent.
In other Match Day 3 matches played Sunday, Caps United continued their fine start to their 2023 premiership campaign with a 1-0 triumph over visiting ZPC Kariba at the National Sports Stadium.
At Gibbo, hosts Triangle United failed to use home advantage in nil-all draw with Ngezi Platinum.
Hwange FC trashed Green Fuel 3-0 in another match played at Luveve.
In Saturday matches, all four fixtures ended in less inspiring draws.
Harare giants, Dynamos were held to a nil-all draw by newboys Simba Bhora while Bulawayo Chiefs and Black Rhinos also played to a goalless draw.
The clash between Cranborne Bullets and Chicken Inn at Baobab Stadium produced another goalless draw with newboys Sheasham and Yadah the only scoring teams in a 1-all draw at Mandava stadium.
