BULAWAYO – Retiring Zimbabwe football star Moses Jackson has attributed his long stay in the game to a combination of disciple and passion for the sport.
Jackson called time on his football career at the age of 41 at the end of the 2022 premiership season.
The Tshabalala born former Chicken Inn centre back, started his career in 1999.
In an interview with Zimlive, the 2017 premiership soccer star of the year co-finalist said discipline had been key to him lasting over 23 years in competitive football.
“There is no secret to longevity, it should be every sportsperson’s way of life. Discipline is the cornerstone to success for any sportsperson to excel,” said Jackson.
The footballer left Bulawayo as an infant and later attended school in Harare where he made his debut in 1999 for Zimphos.
Jackson later moved to Harare giants Caps United where he stayed up to 2002.
He temporarily quit the game but returned the following year at Division One side Tobacco Research Board FC.
In 2005, he moved to Nigel Sweepers Division One side where he was offered employment.
Jackson joined Hardbody in 2012 and helped the club earn promotion into the premiership.
The football star would later leave for Chicken Inn for a stint that saw the club clinch the NetOne trophy and league championship during the golden period.
Jackson still wants to extend his romance with the game but this time on the touchline as a coach.
He says he remains grateful for the opportunities he has received from Chicken Inn.
“Chicken Inn has been good to me, I have been assured by the club that they will not dump me. I look forward to a new life outside the field of play,” said Jackson.
“I dream of being a coach. Soon I will be searching for opportunities to attend coach training programmes,” said the 41 year old who does not smoke but drinks occasionally.
