BINDURA – Just as the nation is yet to stomach the rape and impregnating of a 9-year-old Tsholotsho girl, yet another 9-year-old minor has reportedly fallen pregnant from a rape ordeal in Bindura.
The shocking details of the Bindura minor’s rape were revealed after suspicious school officials at Kambira Primary School took the Grade 3 pupil to Bindura Hospital on Wednesday with her mother’s consent.
Hospital tests confirmed the girl’s innocence had been violated and that she was 6 months pregnant with a breech baby in her womb.
A baby is breech when they are positioned feet or bottom first in the uterus.
Ideally, a baby is positioned so that the head is delivered first during a vaginal birth.
National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, in an interview, confirmed the horrifying incident stating that two teenage suspects had been arrested over the crime.
“It is true that a nine-year-old Bindura girl is pregnant.
“In connection with the rape allegations, we have arrested two 17-year-olds.
“The minor is currently six months and three weeks pregnant, and police investigations are still ongoing,” Nyathi said.
This happens hardly a week after the Tsholotsho minor was assisted by doctors in Bulawayo to deliver her baby through caesarean section.
While the crime of rape on minors is common in Zimbabwe, there have been no known cases of 9-year-old girls falling pregnant from the ordeals.
However, according to official statistics, over 20 000 young primary and secondary education students in Zimbabwe fell pregnant between September 2021 and August this year.
While most of the cases involving rape on minors have pure criminal intentions, some of the acts are reportedly inspired by superstitious beliefs linking the rape of minors to lucky charms or the exorcising of bad spirits on the advice of some unscrupulous traditional healers.
