HARARE – In a sad incident, a 12-year-old minor was on Saturday electrocuted after he touched the metal body of an electric swing at the Zimbabwe Agricultural Show Luna Park, Harare.
Police confirmed the tragedy.
“The ZRP reports a sad incident in which a 12 year old boy was electrocuted after he touched the metal body of an electric swing known as paratrooper on 03/09/22 at Zimbabwe Agricultural Show Luna Park, Harare.
“The victim died upon arrival at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals. Investigations are in progress,” police said via the organisation’s Twitter handle Sunday.
The minor was later identified as Wayne Mugaure, a Grade pupil at Alfred Beit School in Harare.
Saturday was the last day of the annual agricultural showcase which has traditionally been combined with a lot of funfair.
It is however not the first incident involving the death of a minor at the Exhibition Park in recent years.
In 2011, Given Flint Matapure, who was 3 years of age, went missing at the then Harare Agricultural Show, with his skeletal remains found days later by a worker who was clearing a piece of land within Exhibition Park.
Meanwhile, in another incident involving the death of a minor Saturday, a 15-year-old juvenile was struck and killed by a motorist in a hit-and-run incident along the Harare-Chitungwiza highway.
Police confirmed they were investigating “a fatal hit-and-run road traffic accident which occurred on 03/09/22 at around 1930 hours along Seke Road near Koala Abattoir bus stop, Hatfield”.
“An unknown motorist hit a 15 year old juvenile and did not stop after the accident.
“The victim died on the spot after sustaining severe head, legs and arms injuries,” said police while appealing for information that could lead to the arrest of the killer motorist.
