HARARE – NewsDay deputy editor Nqaba Matshazi has left the role in an internal reshuffle and will now assume a recently created title of Head of Digital.
The newspaper, owned by Alpha Media Holdings, is on the verge of appointing a new deputy editor with veteran journalist Zerubabel Mudzingwa tipped to take over from Matshazi.
Matshazi, who will work across the three Alpha Media titles including The Zimbabwe Independent and The Standard, is expected to drive the company’s digital thrust with a focus on monetisation of their online platforms.
Dumisani Muleya, the Alpha Media editor in chief, said he was unable to confirm the changes as he was out of the country.
“I’m not fully briefed at the moment because I have been away a few days but let’s talk next week when I’m back,” Muleya said.
Zimbabwean newspapers have seen a sharp decline in sales and company bosses are increasingly leaning on marketing teams to extract value from online platforms.
