HARARE – Former Manchester City striker Benjani Mwaruwari has been appointed assistant coach for the Zimbabwe national team.

The 43-year-old will deputise Croat Zdvarko Logarusic, who already has Lloyd Mutasa and Tonderayi Ndiraya as his assistants.

A ZIFA statement said on Wednesday: ““The executive committee received a progress report from the Technical and Development Committee with regards to all matches played in 2021. The exco resolved that the technical teams will remain unchanged. The exco further resolved to augment the Warriors’ technical team by appointing Benjani Mwaruwari as an assistant coach.

“The appointment is with immediate effect.”

The former Zimbabwe captain recently got his UEFA A coaching licence in the United Kingdom.

It is Mwaruwari’s first coaching role after hanging his boots in 2014.

In a glittering playing career, Mwaruwari featured for Auxerre in France, Portsmouth and Manchester City in the English Premier League and Bidvest Wits in the South African top flight.
