BULAWAYO – Highlanders coach Mark Harrison has “temporarily” suspended his contract with the Bulawayo club to return to the United Kingdom until there is certainty over when the league season will start, the club announced on Tuesday.
The Briton joined the Bulawayo club in January, but has only taken charge of one match – a 2-0 defeat to champions FC Platinum in the season-opening Castle Challenge Cup.
An outbreak of the coronavirus has disrupted the Premier Soccer League calendar, with clubs waiting to find out when they would be able to resume matches after the government banned public gatherings and imposed a rolling national lockdown.
In a statement on Tuesday, Highlanders said: “Highlanders FC and technical manager Mark Harrison have agreed to temporarily suspend Harrison’s contract until both parties are certain when the league will resume.
“Harrison will return to the United Kingdom, and will come back when the situation normalises.”
Highlanders are reeling after their main sponsors NetOne did not renew their funding for the 2020 season.
The 59-year-old Harrison previously coached CAPS United and Harare City.
