JOHANNESBURG, South Africa – Knowledge Musona scored his first goal for his new side KAS Eupen last Saturday in a 1-1 draw at home to Charleroi in the Belgian top-flight.
The home side were chasing the game as early as the 5th minute when Mamadou Fall gave the high-flying visitors the lead.
But Musona, who signed on loan from RSC Anderlecht until the end of the season last week, responded with a 10th minute leveller.
It was a good start for his new club by the 29-year-old Zimbabwe striker who spoke of a “very good impression” of Eupen after spending the last two weeks training with them in Qatar during their winter break.
Eupen stay 13th in the league on 20 points, nine clear of relegation with eight matches to play. Charleroi lost third spot to Antwerp following the draw, and now find themselves 12 points off table toppers Club Brugge.
Speaking on January 17 after signing for his new club, Musona said: “I got to know the club and the team in the training camp in Doha and this week during the training in Eupen and I got a very good impression.
“I feel good here and hope to have some time in Eupen and to be able to support my teammates. The friendly against Ajax Amsterdam and PSV Eindhoven was a good start. I’m a striker who is versatile. Both in the middle and on both sides. I play where the coach uses me.”
Musona has been dogged by injuries which have limited his appearances for Anderlecht.
Before moving to RSC Anderlecht, Musona played for TSG Hoffenheim, FC Augsburg and KV Oostende, among others. For Ostend, he scored 41 goals in 112 Jupiler Pro League matches and gave 18 assists.
The striker has been capped 27 times by Zimbabwe, scoring 19 goals.
Eupen coach Beñat San José said: “Knowledge has integrated very well into the team. He is a player who offers us additional opportunities in attack. He can score goals himself, but can also serve his teammates with good passes.”
