HARARE – Army club Black Rhinos have sacked their team manager after he admitted receiving a bribe to influence the outcome of their match against relegation-threatened Herentals.
Rhinos say Gift Kamuriwo, a former Zimbabwe international, faces a court martial over the October 19 match in which the army side were down 3-0 in the opening 10 minutes.
Black Rhinos, meanwhile, have reported Herentals to the Premier Soccer League who have now opened their own match fixing investigation.
Kamuriwo is accused of receiving US$600 from Herentals manager Oliver Chirenga to give to unnamed players.
Blessing Majarira scored three goals in the opening 10 minutes which Rhinos chiefs are now convinced were gifts.
Rhinos secretary-general Wellington Mabiginye said: “Our team manager confessed to taking the bribe and he has been sacked for that. We have high standards to maintain and football should be a clean sport.
“We have no jurisdiction over the other club, so we are taking up the matter with the PSL.”
If the allegations are proven, Herentals could be docked points and face a huge fine, which would confirm their relegation.
Herentals currently sit on the last of the relegation places, one point from safety. They are unbeaten in their last six matches, but five of those were draws sandwiched between the thumping win over Rhinos.
