HARARE – Five people were killed and 13 others were transported to hospital following a head-on collision between a kombi and heavy duty truck near Mazowe Dam on the Harare-Bindura Road on Tuesday.
The kombi with 18 passengers was travelling to Harare from Mvurwi, while the MAN truck, with three onboard, was heading in the opposite direction, police said.
National police spokesman Commissioner Paul Nyathi said after impact with the truck, the kombi side-wiped with a Toyota Belta vehicle with three passengers on board.
“The bodies of the victims were taken to Concession Hospital mortuary for post mortem whilst the injured are admitted at the same hospital,” Nyathi said.
The accident comes hot on the heels of a bus fire in Rusape which left eight Anglican Church devotees dead. The Passion Link bus, which authorities say had no permit to be on the road, was engulfed in fire after the driver opened the engine area near the door to investigate reports of smoke coming from the area.
