HARARE – Four people died and two others are hospitalised in Mutare after they drank a concoction made from aloe vera plant, police said.

The incident took place at the Gonorenda homestead in Marange near Mutare.

A police statement about the incident did not say why the individuals took the concoction.

“Three of the four victims were identified by their next of kin as Joseph Myambo, 45, Brighton Gwenzi Chibhosho, 27, and Kudakwashe Marambire, 44. The other victim is yet to be identified by the next of kin,” national police spokesman Paul Nyathi said.

The two survivors are admitted at Mutambara Hospital.

Locals said they believed the men were trying to make guchu/imbiza which cleanses the system and opens blood vessels for better erectile functions for men.
