BULAWAYO — Police on Monday arrested three suspected carjackers following a shootout in Bulawayo’s Luveve suburb.

Moketsi Ndlovu, 18, Respect Khumalo, 22, and Onias Tembo, 19, are linked to a series of armed robberies targeting motor vehicles in Bulawayo and Gwanda between July and November.

Police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said detectives tracked the suspects to a hideout in Luveve, Bulawayo, after receiving a tip-off. When the suspects opened fire, a shootout ensued, and the suspects were arrested near the Roman Catholic Church.

A 9mm FN Browning pistol, three live rounds, and eight empty cartridges were recovered, Nyathi said.

The suspects are linked to three robberies, including the theft of a Toyota Fun Cargo on October 1, 2024, along Jungle Road in Bulawayo. Police say they are also tied to a November 13 robbery in Reigate Township, where a Honda Fit, a cellphone, and cash were stolen, and another robbery on November 20 at Chigumira Business Centre, where a Ford Ranger was taken.

The Ford Ranger was later recovered at a railway crossing in Spitzkop, Gwanda.

Police are seeking information on a fourth suspect, Elvis Charakupa, 41, from Mpopoma. Investigators are urging anyone with information to contact the National Complaints Desk at (0242) 703631, WhatsApp 0712 800 197, or report to any police station.
