BULAWAYO – A female police was runover by a ZUPCO bus near the Khami Road flyover bridge on Thursday, witnesses said.
The CAG bus running a ZUPCO service was coming from the city centre and driving towards Mpopoma shortly after 7AM.
A witness at the scene told ZimLive: “There was a roadblock at which police officers were mainly stopping vehicles heading towards town.
“This police officer was crossing the road on the outbound lanes. I’m not sure if she misjudged the speed of the bus or the bus driver didn’t react in time or had some mechanical issue.
“She was dragged for about 30 meters. There’s a trail of blood stains and some scraps of flesh on the road. Her body was in pieces, kept intact by her clothes.”
The bus came to a stop a short distance from the original impact. The police officer’s body lay uncollected in the road for over an hour as traffic was redirected.
The incident is under police investigation.
