HARARE – A mother who disappeared on Saturday on her way to work returned to her family early Wednesday – but remembers very little of her time when she was missing.
Thandiwe Chipamhadze, 32, turned up at her sister’s home in Kuwadzana 3 at around 3AM.
Her sister, Emelia, told ZimLive: “She was cold and crying. She spoke very little. She said all she remembered was catching a lift on Saturday, and then the people who gave her a lift refused to let her disembark after taking her phone.
“The next thing she remembers was finding herself on Bulawayo road in Kuwadzana Extension. That’s when she walked to my house.”
Police are investigating Chipamadze’s disappearance. They interviewed her on Wednesday, before referring her to hospital.
Emelia added: “We went to hospital and they conducted some tests. She has also been seeing a counsellor but she’s just broken. She won’t stop crying.”
Thandiwe, a hairdresser, left home in Mufakose on Saturday morning for her commute to her work in Chisipite. She shares the home with her husband and their three young children.
While waiting at a bus stop in an area known as Magandanga at around 7AM, she texted her niece to say she was having difficulties getting transport.
Thandiwe never arrived at work. Emelia, who also works at the same hair salon, raised the alarm, sparking a desperate search and viral internet appeals.
“We are just glad to have her back in one piece. The rest we will figure out as we go and help her regain her confidence,” Emelia said, speaking on Thursday morning.
