HARARE – The broke Zimbabwe Football Association is being sued by a travel agent after failing to settle a US$55,000 bill for air tickets bought for the women’s national team in July.
ZIFA flew 52 people to Port Elizabeth in South Africa in July for the 2019 Cosafa Women Championship.
Travel Genius, in summons filed at the High Court, says ZIFA has neglected to settle the bill, ignoring several demands.
“Plaintiff (Travel Genius) raised an invoice of US$54,704 and first defendant (ZIFA) undertook to pay the money on or before August 2, 2019. It was a material term of the agreement that plaintiff would offer the service and first defendant would pay in August 2019,” the travel agent’s lawyers said.
“Again, on July 31, 2019, the first defendant requested services of the plaintiff to procure a flight ticket for one individual from Robert Mugabe International Airport to OR Tambo International Airport (one way) for one Lovemore Benny Mtetwa.
“First defendant is in material breach of the agreement in that service was rendered and it has failed to pay the total amount of US$55,164 on the agreed date. Despite several demands, the first defendant has failed, neglected or refused to pay the said amount.”
ZIFA is yet to responded to the claim.
