BULAWAYO – Two prisoners have escaped from correctional facilities in Lalapanzi and Mutoko, police said.
Peter Sigauke, 23, escaped from a jail in Lalapanzi near Gweru on September 19, while Tinashe Rupiya, 22, broke out of prison in Mutoko.
National police spokesman Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said Sigauke was serving a prison sentence of 48 months after a conviction for “plain robbery.”
Rupiya, meanwhile, was serving a 14-month sentence for a case of unlawful entry into premises.
Police did not provide further information about how the prisoners escaped.
Nyathi urged anyone with information to call the national police complaints desk on 0242703631 or to send a WhatsApp message to 0712 800197. Alternatively, members of the public can report at any nearest police station.
