HARARE – The Zimbabwe Warriors have been drawn against African giants Senegal in the 2021 Cosafa Cup set for Nelson Mandela Bay, South Africa, from July 7 through 18.

Team manager Wellington Mpandare said they would treat the Lions of Teranga like any other team.

Mozambique and Namibia complete the line-up of Group C, while hosts South Africa have been pitted against Lesotho, Eswatini, and Botswana in Group A.

Group B comprises defending champions Zambia, Malawi, Madagascar, and Comoros.

Zimbabwe are six-time winners of the regional tournament.

“Yes we have been drawn against Senegal, but that should not be a surprise for us because we knew they would be thrown into the hat,” said Mpandare.

“We are not afraid of them because they are African powerhouses. The good thing about this tournament is that the coach will be able to assess the team ahead of World Cup qualifiers in September.”

The FIFA 2022 World Cup qualifiers that were set for June were postponed to September due to a spike of Covid-19 infections.

It was the second time the games were moved after their initial rescheduling from last October due to the respiratory virus that has killed millions of people globally.

Zimbabwe was due to take on South Africa in their opening match on June 6 in their group which also boats Ethiopia and West African giants Ghana.
